In 2011, the imprisonment of Frenchwoman Florence Cassez in Mexico on charges of kidnapping brought the planned cultural exchange of a Year of Mexico in France to an untimely end. But for those with an interest in art beyond politics, some 50 Mexican works have still managed to make their way into the Musée d’art Moderne in Paris. Bringing together videos, photos, drawings, films and installations, the exhibition ‘Resisting the Present: Mexico 2000-2012’ dissolves the boundaries between artistic forms, giving Paris a chance to take a fresh look at the vision of young Mexican artists, without the diplomatic fracas.
