Know Your City is delighted to partner with AARP Oregon to offer A People’s History of Portland, our popular walking tour highlighting Portland’s immigrant and working class heroes, and celebrating our city’s social activists & movements. This partnership is special in many ways: we’re thrilled to bring the Extraordinary Stories of Portland’s Old Town and Chinatown history to a new audience, and we’re also pleased to be involved in NeighborWalks, an AARP Health & Well Being event.

A People’s History of Portland will start in Ankeny Alley near SW 2nd/Ankeny in front of Dan & Louis Oyster Bar. Our guide will lead the group throughout Old Town, pointing out historical sites important to Portland’s immigrant history, as well as the foundations of our history of social progressiveness. Along the way you will hear stories about :

Portland’s many Chinatowns
LGBTQ history
African American history and early downtown community
Jewish roots in Portland
Japantown’s disappearance
Marie Equi in Portland and early Portland women’s history
And more!

Hope we can see you Saturday, September 26th at 10am. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water!
