Oregon Historical Society says
We are on the cusp of a change in the way we do foreign policy in this country. The major threat in the world today is terrorism, not land wars between great powers. Yet the world's security infrastructure continues to be based largely on conditions that prevailed during the Cold War. Join us for a panel discussion on this important and timely topic as well as a screening of the film AMERICAN UMPIRE.

AMERICAN UMPIRE is a 56 minute documentary narrated by Jim Lehrer that takes a critical look at America's role as the world's policeman. In interviews with some of the biggest names in foreign policy, including Condoleezza Rice, Madeline Albright, George Schulz, and more, AMERICAN UMPIRE explores our origins as a neutral nascent republic and our transition to a highly engaged superpower after World War II. AMERICAN UMPIRE asks the important question, "What is the future of American geopolitical engagement in a rapidly changing world?"

Presented in partnership with the World Affairs Council of Oregon and OSU Citizenship and Crisis Initiative.
