Art Reception Downtown: Lane Walkup says
For "Bless Your Heart, USA," her first solo exhibition at Stumptown Downtown, Lane Walkup presents a visual interpretation of the varying emotional states she has witnessed Portlanders experience since the 2016 election results. Playing upon the seven stages of grief, these new metal wire pieces use humor and whimsey to convey a collective heartache.

Lane Walkup is a sculptor hailing from North Carolina, where her love of metalwork first blossomed after learning to weld in 2009. Self-taught for most of her career, she has focused on knife-making, fabrication, and casting until finding her passion for forming steel wire sculptures. Inspired by sunsets, dark humor, and internet culture, Lane makes pieces with considered movement, mimicking line drawings in the air.
