Join Black Lives Matter Portland for our monthy open meeting on the second Tuesday of every month! Meet the organizers, learn about our work, find out how to get involved, and engage in political discussion and struggle with other Black/African folks. You do not have to be a member of #BLMPDX to attend, you just have to be Black or African and committed to the liberation of your people. Snacks -including vegan options- will be provided!
At this month's open meeting we'll be introducing our *Hurt People Hurt People Series* or how the oppression Black people face due to white supremacy, racism, patriarchy, and capitalism sometimes causes us to hurt our friends, families, loved ones, comrades and communities. We'll talk about what this harm looks and feels like, what can cause it, how to cope with it, ways to organize for accountability within our communities, and how to heal together. This month's topic is: Misogynoir and Patriarchy in the Black Community.
All Black Lives Matter Portland events are open to ALL Black folks including: Black trans folks, Black queer folks, Black non-binary folks, hood Black folks, poor Black folks, houseless Black folks, Black femmes, formerly incarcerated Black folks, not yet woke and still getting woke Black folks, Black folks living with mental illness, Black nerds, Black weirdos, Black folks who've never organized a day in their lives, ain't shit but trying to do better Black folks, and more. We are welcoming and accepting of ALL identities. Oppressive language or behavior of any kind will be challenged and interrupted in all BLMPDX spaces.
Join us to build, learn, grow, and love for revolution. Leave the hate taught to us by white supremacy, racism, capitalism and colonialism at the door.
