PDX Jazz and Portland Jazz Festival says
Chico Freeman featuring Luke Carlos O'Reilly, Kenny Davis & Marvin "Smitty" Smith

While saxophonist/trumpeter Chico Freeman is the son of legendary hard bop sax player Von Freeman, Chico has carved out his own niche in the world of jazz over the course of his 40+ year career. In 1976 he released his first full length as a bandleader and has gone on to release over 30 albums as well as collaborating with McCoy Tyner, Jack DeJohnette, Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Barron, George Cables, Branford Marsalis, Cecil McBee, and Elvin Jones. After living and working in Europe for the past decade, Chico makes his triumphant return to the United States in support of his newest project, Chico Freeman +Tet, and their brand new disc on Jive Music, Spoken Into Existence. His newest opus amply serves notice that Freeman is still a force to be reckoned with as he addresses a plethora of rich melodies framed within a diverse array of musical styles including hip hop, funk, bebop, post-bop, and the blues.
