Culinary artist Jared Goodman of Morgan St Theater Dessert Club continues his collaboration with the Portland Art Museum for a one-of-a-kind Edible Art History pop-up inspired by three noted paintings in the Museum’s Modern art collection that explore twentieth century abstraction: a composition of color and shape by Maude Kerns, horses in Eastern Oregon by C. S. Price, and a pop rendition of color and shape by Thomas Downing. Goodman will pair these artworks with adventuresome ice cream sundaes that will speak to their aesthetics, history, and social context. He will be joined by Prudence Roberts, former Curator of American Art at the Museum and now Instructor of Art History at Portland Community College. Join us for a unique and intimate “dessert for dinner” museum experience filled with storytelling, art history, bold flavors, and lively conversation.
This program is part of Shine A Light: Rethink What Can Happen in a Museum. Once an annual event, today Shine A Light takes the form of an occasional public program series that presents artist and community-driven projects on select Friday nights and weekends. Shine A Light continues to focus on and celebrate new forms of experiential, participatory, and social practice art within the context of the Portland Art Museum.
