Encountering The Figure Exhibition Opening

Opening Reception: Friday, March 6, 2015, 6:00 – 9:00 pm Closing Reception: Friday March 27, 2015, 6:00 – 9:00 pm Exhibit Dates: March 6 – 31, 2015 PORTLAND, OR – In this group show, five women painters come together to present a body of work celebrating each individual’s encounter with figurative painting and their friendship together. There is breadth and depth of experience within the group, stylistic differences, and years of determination to continue painting together with studio models. Five unique perspectives and personalities enliven the world of the blank canvas with oils, acrylics and watercolors through direct figure painting. From Gail Simmons, one of the five painters, “ In essence, as we begin to paint, the curtain pulls back, the model sits still, the show begins, and we act with our tools as in a dance or song or dialogue until the model breaks his/her countenance and the session is over. We usually paint from 2-3 hours at a session, inside or outside. Very often we paint to music or paint a musician.
