Gold Leaf Restoration says
The Portland Art Museum (PAM) is featuring a 14th-century gilded altarpiece by Francescuccio Ghissi, an Italian artist who worked in the Marche around the 1370s. The altarpiece was divided up into several smaller panels in the 19th or 20th centuries, and these pieces found homes in different collections and museums around the world. PAM has reunited these panels, except for one which could not be located - but the missing piece has been reproduced, and the process of this reproduction is a fascinating element of the exhibition.

From the Portland Art Museum's website:
"Nancy Thorn, Portland’s local Master Gilder, will be demonstrating gilding on May 20th in the Overlook Gallery from 1-3 PM. Francescuccio Ghissi’s St. John Altarpiece is gilded in gold leaf and Nancy will describe the techniques that would have been used on the altarpiece and which are still in use today."

**May 20th is also Art Museum Day, and admission to PAM is free!!**

Join us at the museum on Saturday May 20th for a demonstration on the techniques and history of gilding! We hope to see you there.
