"Know Myself in All My Parts" Art Exhibition by Ebony Galluzzo
The exhibition will be open to the public through Sunday February 28th, 2016

February 1st is the holiday of Imbolc--a Gaelic celebration that marks the beginning of spring: the quickening of energy as the tiny seedlings begin to unfurl just beneath the soil. It is a potent time to decide what projects and goals you want to achieve for the year and to ignite those intentions--beginning to set things in motion for manifestation.

In honor of the energy at this time of year, The Fernie Brae will be exhibiting these stunning images. Beginning with a photograph, local artist, Ebony Galluzzo adds layers of textures to her photographs using Photoshop and creates something where the human hand can be seen on a gut level. She constantly pushes her pictures until they look the way she feels.

"I was thinking about the words a friend had spoken: 'I am the Queen of my life.' This was I feeling I had longed for in myself. A queen sits in the seat of her own authority, investigates the various landscapes of her pain while wearing her crown, chooses to let her heart break in order to release what is trapped inside, and tells her worst stories--even after she’s healed--in order to light the way for others. That queen became the figurehead for this project.

The story I wanted to tell was not my particular story, but the larger themes of struggle: My starting point was a woman trapped in a pain that feels meaningless; my ending point was a queen. The journey between those points was a challenge: to know myself in all my parts. In order to depict the transformation from one to the other, I had to break it down into moments of despair, grief, release, surrender, hope and beauty.
I offer this project as a series of lamps to light the road." ~ Ebony Galluzzo
