Meet The Curator: Chiara Giovando says
Mimosas and mingling outside!

On Sunday, May 31st, Disjecta will introduce incoming Curator-in-Residence Chiara Giovando to the public with an afternoon of casual conversation and mimosas. Please join us in welcoming Chiara to Portland. Weather permitting this event will be held outside.

Giovando will helm the fifth year of Disjecta’s Curator-in-Residence program. This gathering will be an opportunity to learn about her curatorial interests, background, and her plans for the upcoming exhibition season. She will give an informal presentation, followed by a Q&A session that we hope will encourage dialogue about Disjecta’s program.

Chiara Giovando is a Los-Angeles based artist and curator. She earned a BFA at the San Francisco Art Institute and received a MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. Recently, she founded Thousand Points of Light, a site-works and residency program in Joshua Tree, CA. From 2012 – 2014 Giovando was Co-Director and Curator at Human Resources L.A., where she organized several exhibitions of newly commissioned works. She was a recipient of the Fellows of Contemporary Art Curators Lab Award in 2013, for which she curated The Third Ear, an exhibition of new sound art in Los Angeles. The same year, she was invited to arrange a score for the Calder Quartet at the Barbican in London based on Christian Wolff’s Edges (1969). In 2012 she was awarded a research fellowship with German collector and curator René Block that culminated in Hammer Without a Master: Henning Christiansen’s Archive, an exhibition that included 14 artists and composers as well as archival material.
