Michalangela says
What do NW notables Farnell Newton, Devin Phillips, Tony Ozier and John Mazzocco all have in common? How about the fact that Michal Angela Wilson is one of the singers they all love working with. Coming from a large musical family in the small town of Moscow Idaho, Michal Angela has been entertaining audiences with her captivating voice since the age of 4 or 5. Her Dad is a pastor and mom is vocalist and a piano player, so worship and music filled her early life. After studying Classical Voice at The Lionel Hampton School of Music ( U of I ), Ms. Wilson yearned for bigger horizons. Portland and Seattle were the candidates and after talking it over with some seasoned players Portland got the gig and we got lucky.
Upon arriving she hooked up with Jonathan Swanson who was so enamored with her voice that he offered to let her record her first CD, “Portland Rain” released on Blue Whisper Records in 2008, for free. Michal Angela has quickly ascended the ranks of the Portland music scene appearing frequently with her own jazz ensemble at places like Wilf’s, Ivories, Jimmy Maks, The Heathman and Living Room Theatres, where she teamed up Ben Darwish, Kevin Dietz and a whole host Portland luminaries. Citing artists like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and India Arie Michal Angela has always been fascinated with neo-soul, r&b and old school soul music. The first time she saw Ozier’s “Dookie Jam” she ended up onstage and the virus has refused to leave her system. Since heading in that direction she has worked with Saeeda Wright, Max Ribner, Errick Lewis, Farnell Newton and been busy with her own projects. Ben Darwish when asked about Michal said. “Michalangela is one of the most musical vocalists I’ve worked with. Her control and phrasing is second to none.”

Joining Michalangela are Alex Milsted on keys, Trent Baarspul on guitar, and Brian Foxworth on drums.
