New Age pianist Sally Harmon was born in Washington, D.C.; she began playing by ear at the age of three, starting formal lessons a year later. A pupil of concert pianist Stewart Gordon, in time she earned a Masters Degree in music and began touring the U.S.; in 1985, Harmon and her husband, jazz bassist/producer Frank Gruner, formed the Soulo Records label, initially selling copies of early efforts like Brava! and Snap, Classical, Pop! at her concerts before landing national distribution. Noontime Showcase is presented by the volunteers of Portland’5 Centers for the Arts, whose goal is to make the performing arts accessible to everyone in Portland. Each season over 1,000 people attended the FREE monthly performances. “The Noontime Showcase allows Portland’5 to say thank you to Portland for supporting the arts by providing free entertainment to the community,” said Margie Humphreys, Volunteer Coordinator for Portland’5. “It also allows us to invite our neighbors into our buildings to see all of the great things we have going on at Portland’5.”
