May 15, 1 – 3pm

OCAC’s Teapot Class, taught by Metals Department Head Christine Clark, provides an essential step in developing the vocabulary of a metalsmith. Focusing on ancient traditions that are still practiced today — such as raising and forming, large scale soldering, and fitting processes — students create a functional teapot.

The Tea Party showcases handmade teapots designed by Metals students Arielle Brackett, Tayja Danger, Thea Kinner, and Sara Thompson. The class requirement asks students to create a fully functional and artistically designed teapot. This intensive experience prepares OCAC students for careers as professional makers.

The event also features the custom OCAC CRAFTED TEA by Portland’s renowned Steven Smith Teamaker. OCAC staff, students, faculty, and board and foundation members created the tea with Steven Smith in 2012. Tea Party guests can taste and buy this signature herbal tea, featuring African rooibos, exotic spices, and Oregon-grown mint, during the event. Proceeds support OCAC student scholarships. Steven Smith Teamaker co- founder, Kim DeMent, joins the party for the fourth year.
