October Pbs General Meeting Featuring Bonnie Meltzer says
This month's PBS general meeting features a the very special Bonnie Meltzer from Simply Mixed Media!

Bonnie's talk will show how she uses beads in her mixed media art. Bonnie considers herself a very mixed media artist with crochet at the core. In this presentation you will see how she uses beads to create within all mediums. Bonnie considers all items a bead; in her words "If it has a hole in it it’s a bead. If it doesn’t, I drill one." Yes, she does use “real” beads crocheted into projects with wire or fishing line but also uses computer parts, hardware of all kinds, shells and thing-a-ma-bobs. And who says that beads have to be only woven, sewn or crocheted? In her last project, a 16’ mural on view now in Halsey Oregon, big wooden beads were screwed into wood. Her presentation will feature images and will also some real pieces.

A quick bio from Bonnie Meltzer:
"I spend most of my time in the studio making sculptures and jewelry with crocheted wire and a gaggle of other materials. I have exhibited in galleries, museums and special projects in rural communities. A crocheted and Beaded artwork is on the cover of “The Fine Art of Crochet” by Gwen Blakley Kinsler and a necklace with washer’s as beads is in Crocheted Wire Jewelry by Arline Fisch. I have given 100’s of workshops and presentations; most recently at Museum of Contemporary Craft, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology and Pendleton Woolen Mills. I live with my husband in Portland, Oregon in a cottage with a studio in the yard. Both are surrounded by an enormous organic vegetable garden."

As you can see, if you enjoy mixed media or simply the unconventional, this is a talk you don't want to miss!
