Mississippi Studios is proud to present the 1st night of our two night SXSW Send-off with local, Austin-bound, favorites: Natasha Kmeto, Grandparents and Swahili.
NATASHA KMETO (http://www.natashakmeto.com):
Natasha Kmeto is a Portland-based singer and electronic producer who turns heads everywhere she goes. Armed with a taut dancefloor sensibility and a flutteringly sensuous voice, she exudes the kind of confidence that can only come from a staunch commitment to her craft. Her tracks, which she composes, produces, and performs entirely by herself, straddle the line between dance, pop, and RnB, making rhythmically intriguing compositions that slide effortlessly into the ear and send shivers down the spine. Her energy, talent, and realization of the intricate coalesce into a truly visceral live show, moving both to the partygoer and the thinking person alike. Natasha’s long list of notable and acclaimed live performances include a 2014 national tour supporting TV On The Radio, gigs at Coachella, Bumbershoot & SXSW. She has shared the stage with a number of talented artists including Fourtet, Squarepusher, Flying Lotus, Kid Cudi & Flume.
GRANDPARENTS (http://grandparents.bandcamp.com):
Grandparents are a six piece psych outfit from Portland, OR. Their sound twists from shoegazey dream pop to screechy fuzz folk and balances noisy experimentations with tightly crafted melodies. Grandparents are currently self-recording their first LP with an expected release in Spring 2015.
SWAHILI (http://www.swahilinoise.com):
Portland-based band Swahili make music for your brain and for your limbs. Citing Philip K. Dick and 70s disco as major influences the band makes tightly-wound psychedelic pop that is both thoroughly danceable and thoroughly daydream-inducing.
