Free the Oregon Zoo Elephants says
Packy turns 54 on April 14. His entire life has been spent at the Oregon Zoo, most of the time isolated and now suffering from a host of zoo-related illnesses including TB. This year for the first time, the zoo is doing nothing to commemorate his birthday for the public. All they had was a photo op with a cake, they hauled out Packy to be exhibited and invited the press. After he eats his cake, and the flurry of zoo PR dies down, he is once again alone and forgotten. So we plan to let the zoo, Metro and the zoo going public know that we have not forgotten and we are going to keep advocating for him to go to sanctuary where he could live out the remainder of his days in a warm, dry spacious environment. We are happy to announce that members of Friends of Woodland Park Zoo Elephants will join us from Seattle and In Defense of Animals ( IDA) will also cosponsor this event with FOZE. Joe's Cool Bus will be parked in front of Food Fight on SE Stark betwen SE 12 and 13th. Hop on the bus and get a free ride to the zoo. Joe and his bus will pick us up at 1;30 pm and bring us back after the rally. Join us and help us deliver the message that the best present to give Packy on his birthday is his freedom And if possible, join us to testify on Packy's actual birthday, April 14 at 2pm at Metro.
