Red Yarn - 'Born in the Deep Woods' Album Release Show
Saturday, March 11, 5:00-6:30pm at Mississippi Studios

Red Yarn celebrates the release of his new album, 'Born in the Deep Woods,' with a full band and puppeteers!

Red Yarn is a dynamic Portland family performer who weaves folksongs and puppetry into engaging shows for all ages. Since creating his Red Yarn persona in 2011, Texas-born artist and educator Andy Furgeson has established himself as a singular voice in the local and national “kindie” scene. With his energetic performances, lush folk-rock recordings and playful music videos, this red-bearded bard is reviving American folklore for younger generations.

In March 2017, Red Yarn releases his fourth album, 'Born in the Deep Woods.' It completes his Deep Woods trilogy, an epic tale of family and self-discovery in the American wilderness, told through traditional and original animal folksongs. Red Yarn’s first three albums – 'The Deep Woods' (2013), 'Deep Woods Revival' (2015), and 'Wake Up & Sing' (2016) – earned accolades like NAPPA Gold, Parents’ Choice, and Fids & Kamily Music Awards. Recorded at Portland’s Type Foundry Studio with co-producer Adam Selzer and a band of local luminaries, the new album explores musical genres that grew out of old, weird American folk music. From alt-country to trance blues to heartland rock’n’roll, Born in the Deep Woods pushes Red Yarn’s creative folklore project into bold new territory.
