Science Pub: Viking Mars Mission says
Viking Mars Missions: The History, Stories and Influence on Mars Exploration with Rachel Tillman, Founder and Executive Director of the Viking Mars Missions Education & Preservation Project (VMMEPP), Al Treder, Viking Guidance & Control, Digital Archivist & Technical Consultant at VMMEPP, Pat DeMartine, Viking Lander Command Sequence & Simulation Programming and Science Team Member, and Peggy Newcomb speaking on behalf of John Newcomb, Author & NASA Engineer (John passed away in March)

NASA’s Mars Viking program made history and changed the future of space exploration and mankind, influencing engineering, science, arts, and culture. It also marked the opening of the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Washington DC and inspired an 11 year-old girl to save a piece of history - the last remaining flight-ready Viking Mars Lander (VL3) from becoming scrap metal to begin the Viking Preservation work. In this talk, VMMEPP members will share some of the rich topics from Viking mission and the influence it has had on technology and culture worldwide as well as the mission experience from each of their perspectives.
