Sophie Lippert, Lee + Hannafin Duo, A Microscope says
Pianist Sophie Lippert, double reed and percussion ensemble Lee + Hannafin Duo and A Microscope (NYC-based pianist Kris Wettstein) come together for an eclectic night of music at Vibrant Studios in Goose Hollow. There will be a complimentary spread of food on hand, with plenty of vegan and gluten-free options.

A Microscope
A Microscope (Kris Wettstein) blends minimalist piano textures with gospel music and West African guitar lines. Trained as a classical pianist, Kris also spent time in Dakar, Senegal collaborating and performing with musicians including Carlou D and Alfadio Dara. Since then, he has been playing gospel music at a church in the Bronx. In 2014, he released For Nothing Holds You In, an EP of quiet, sparse pop songs he made in collaboration with members of itsnotyouitsme, Kelley Polar, and the Boston Public Quartet. He is currently touring in support of an extended new piano piece Tent of Meeting which brings these different styles of music together into one shifting cloud of sound.

Lee + Hannafin Duo
Formed in 2013, the duo of oboist Catherine Lee and percussionist Matt Hannafin fuses an austere New Music sensibility with the openness of free improvisation and the depth of world double-reed/percussion traditions. Their 2015 debut recording, Five Shapes, was described by Oregon Arts Watch as “quintessentially now music . . . less about whirlwind virtuosity than atmosphere, concocted from long tones, judicious use of musical space and silence, and intriguing musical choices that rarely sound studied.”

Sophie Lippert
Sophie Lippert is a classically-trained pianist, yogi, dancer, cook, writer, and voracious consumer of wise words, foreign foods, and podcasts. She has saluted the sun from Hawaii to Houston to Vermont, played cello and piano in countries throughout Europe, danced her way up and down the Americas, and cooked gluten-free fare for groups of 10-100 from all over the globe. Sophie's degree in Piano Performance is from Rice University with the astounding Jon Kimura Parker, and the highlight of her musical career was performing Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue with the Seattle Symphony, as featured soloist. She is devoted to cultivating community and helping people find optimal health through movement, music, and food.
