Stumptown Downtown Portland Art Event: Artist Tessa Bolsover says
For "Untitled (Blue)," her first solo exhibition at Stumptown Downtown, Tessa Bolsover scanned polaroids in early stages of development, resulting in ghostly abstracts reminiscent of color field paintings. Each photograph is spontaneous and unrepeatable, digitally imaged during a process of chemical transformation. The instant of the photograph is imprinted chemically, even prior to the appearance of recognizable forms; an entire moment of light is held within the subtly shifting blues. This series is an attempt to navigate the distance between seeing and recognizing, between images and our perception of them.

Tessa Bolsover is a photographer, writer, and musician based in Portland, Oregon. In 2015, she graduated from the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies at the University of Redlands with a BA in Art and Creative Writing. Her work has been exhibited in Oregon and California, and has been featured in publications including The Editorial Magazine, Latent Image, and Paper Journal, among others. She is a member of the band Opals and an editor for the magazines Ballad Of and Super Massive Black Hole. Her first book of photography, titled "Distances," will be released later this year by Little Paper Press.
