All African People's Revolutionary Party - Portland, Oregon says
In every corner of the world today, in the critical area of education, our children of African descent (Black children) are at best, struggling to survive the school system with their dignity in tact. At worse, the public school system systematically criminalizes and pushes our children out and into a system of mass incarceraton and forced labor.

Although we realize there are many well intentioned and qualified educators working within the Portland Public School District, history has proven that the challenges and lack of support that plague our youth creates the call to action for us as a community to do something to address this serious problem.

To support our cherished youth, we proudly announce the establishment of an independent educational institution named the School of African Roots (SOAR). This institution will consist of interactive instruction with a strong dose of love, respect, patience, and encouragement, that is strongly influenced by the rich cultural traditions that have sustained us as a people for 500+ years.

SOAR will take place each Sunday from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. Classes will be held at a community arts center at 7600 N. Hereford in North Portland. The first day of class will take place on Sunday, September 11th, 2016. Children between the ages of 6 and 18 are welcome to attend classes. There is no charge for children to participate.

To learn more about The School of African Roots please join us at an Open House event on Saturday, August 20th, 2016 from 4pm to 7pm at the location of the school - the Abbey Arts Center at 7600 N. Hereford, Portland. The open house event will include an interactive presentation on the objectives and operations of the school. All are invited to the open house and community will have the chance to meet the organizers for the school, register children to attend the school, and give input to the school project. A free dinner will be served at this event.

Classes start on Sunday, September 11th!

Forward ever!
