Opening Night Party
Saturday April 9th-- 8pm

With performances from artists including Cat Mahatta, Jae Choi, Arthur, Yvette Hall and Morgan Ritter. Hall and Ritter will collaborate on a debut performance of Dart-McLean’s Red Soldier: Episode 1, Don't Give Full Attention, an amateur musical serialized into segments of seven minutes.

The Shadow is Offended is a collection of work made by Johanna Jackson and Dana Dart-McLean. This creative collaboration came together in an earlier iteration of this project held at LA’s Human Resources in September 2015, titled What it Means to Learn.

This show imports that work to Portland in renewed form as an installation of paintings, drawings and sculptures informed by themes resonant with the lineage of surrealism.

"We take an interest in the array repressed material finds-- accessed through dreams and other sculptural forms,” say Jackson and Dart-McLean. “Another language is unfolding in materials. With being women, maybe we are wondering what it means to be gendered as a system of ordering people. And how our own relationships to our experiences of our genders, as women, allow and disallow a range of affect. Yielding, sharing, and craft (or a lack of it) as (gendered) means to access expression are useful to this work."

Come share this wonderful new show with us!
