Tip Mezcal Tasting And Discussion Of Nom 070 & Cocktail Social says
The legal definition of "mezcal" is about to be re-defined. If you care about mezcal, this is your opportunity to hear about proposed changes supported by artisanal and traditional producers, and what you can do to support them.

This industry-focused event will feature a detailed update on the proposed changes, the process that led to them, and the next steps that we can take to support artisanal and traditional mezcal producers. We will also taste mezcals representing the three proposed new categories of mezcal: Mezcal, Artisanal Mezcal, and Ancestral Mezcal.

The discussion will be led by a panel to include insight from Clayton Szczech (Experience Mezcal), Sean Hoard (Tequila Interchange Project, Teardrop Lounge), Dave Shenaut (The Rookery Bar) and Nathan Gerdes (Oregon Bartenders Guild).

Who is the Tequila Interchange Project?

The Tequila Interchange Project (TIP) is a non-profit organization and consumer advocacy group for agave distilled spirits comprised of bartenders, consultants, educators, researchers, consumers and tequila enthusiasts. Our organization advocates the preservation of sustainable, traditional and quality practices in the industries of agave distilled spirits. In light of concerning trends that are currently becoming mainstays in the production of agave distillates, TIP seeks to place a renewed emphasis on the importance of preserving the great heritage of agave distillation in Mexico (https://www.facebook.com/TequilaInterchangeProject)

This is an entirely non-profit event, and to cover costs there is a suggested cover of $10, please bring cash.

Seating for the tasting is unfortunately limited so your RSVP to dshenaut@ravenandrosepdx.com is strictly required.

The discussion will be held from 2-4pm. There will also be a cocktail social following the event (from 4-6pm), where you'll be able to enjoy agave-based cocktails for $8 from Alan Akwai, Jesse Card, Lucas Plant and Sean Hoard. Additionally Dave Shenaut will be making a bowl of punch ($4). Proceeds benefit the Tequila Interchange Project

We are looking for volunteers to help with the execution of the event. If this is you please get in touch with Tommy Klus or Dave Shenaut.
