This month, we have Hot Club of Hawthorne opening with a hot set of Gypsy jazz and swing to move those tappin' toes. The Wanderlust Circus Orchestra will then storm the stage with exceptional takes on classic songs and present some fantastical sounds entirely of their own composition. Brilliantly talented songstress and acrobatic wonder, Jenna Summer Smith (Rose City Acro Devils, Eclectic Americana), will be gracing us with a song or two. And, last but far from least, bellydance / burlesque sensation KAROLINA LUX will make her first appearance at the Social before once again heading off on the Endless Road with her compatriots from Sepiatonic or March Fourth or Vagabond Opera or something. Their music crashes and reels like a calliope freight train off the rails, weaving miraculous feats of skill through the extravagant orchestral warp of our live novelty band. Featuring members of 3 Leg Torso, Vagabond Opera, Chervona, and The Shanghai Woolies! Tap-dancing sax king Shoehorn is featured alongside saucy songbird Anna Leander and frenetic frontman William Batty, sweating and sighing through standards and originals like Danny Elfman arranging Count Basie; while the finest acrobats, aerialists, and vaudevillian virtuosi in the Pacific Wheel Circuit show off their explosive best. The Hot Club of Hawthorne is a collective of musicians who play gypsy jazz: old-time swing and world music played on acoustic stringed instruments, with exotic Old World flair, a fiery delivery, and feelgood charm. The Hot Club was founded in 2011 by guitarist Jeffree White, who has wowed Oregon audiences for 20 years with his extravagant guitar stylings, whimsical delivery, versatility, and flamboyant presence. Jenna Summer Smith -daughter of Micheal "Smitty" Smith of Paul Revere and the Raiders- started to play guitar and write her own songs at the age of fifteen. Always having been in to music and theater, the stage life came easy. After many years of playing with other bands and jamming at campfires, Jenna is honing in on her own sound and working on an album to share with everyone: a mix of genres including Bluegrass, Rockabilly, sing alongs and love songs.
