Dominating the Baixa from its squareatthetopofAvenidados Aliados, the City Hall vies with the nearby Torre dos Clérigos as a symbol of Porto. Its foundation stone was laid in 1920 (earlier city assemblies took place down in the Ribeira), but was only fully occupied in 1957.
