The best picnic spots in Tel Aviv

The best picnic spots in Tel Aviv

Save your boozy brunch money for a good ol’ fashion Yogi Bear style picnic in Park Hayarkon, (though the red and white checkered blanket may be slightly more elephant-printed from the Carmel Market). If you’re a fan of those nostalgic lunches that give a whole new meaning to the word 'sand'-wich, head to one of Tel Aviv’s beaches for an ocean-side bite. And when all that homemade food makes you sleepy, it’s time for a quick catnap before continuing the outdoor fun at one of the best outdoor patios or rooftop bars in Tel Aviv.

Winners of Time Out Tel Aviv's Eating & Drinking Awards announced!

Every year, come end of December, all the who's who of Tel Aviv's bustling culinary scene come together to hear the verdict. Which is the best restaurant in the city? Who is the up-and-coming chef wonder? Who is the bartender with the right attitude? And where the hell do you find the hottest pizza slice in town? This year, the party took place in the city’s new, hot and happening event space, Beit Hasmachot ('house of joy' in Hebrew) - and joyful it was. Time Out Tel Aviv announced the winners in each category and the crowd roared. When the evening ended, some left the party screaming, while some left hoping for a better outcome next year. We believe that just being nominated is a great honour.

Take a Luka: the new fashion forward accessory you want to own

Take a Luka: the new fashion forward accessory you want to own

You know that feeling when you look at something somebody else invented and you wish you had thought of it first ? That is what happened to me when I first saw LUKA. LUKA, aka “Luk at yourself,” is a combination of a beautiful stylish necklace and a super smart concept to match. Although this one-off product targets women over 40, every woman with a sense of style will relate. Winds of age Now, let's talk about age. Every lady turning 40 can feel the change. The eyes are not what they used to be; suddenly it's harder to read the small lettering on the menu, it's not that easy to size up that new bag you really want to buy by price tag alone, and reading text messages isn’t as effortless as it used to be. I mean, how big can a font get? We have to face the facts; we are living in a world of mobile communication where everything is small and fast and glasses cannot be the solution unless you wear them all the time. What is the solution you ask? LUKA is more than a  good option. Basically, it’s a magnifying glass at your service at all times. The tear shaped glass is attached to a gorgeous necklace (6 different designs to be exact) with a long chain allowing you the freedom to hold the glass and actually look through it.         The women behind LUKA are Dana Magen and Michal Henig, best friends who realized over breakfast that they had to create LUKA. They had just turned 45 and while they were eager to order their cup of coffee, they laughed at the fact that they both needed

The road goes on forever and the party never ends: a new collection that will make you want to sing

The road goes on forever and the party never ends: a new collection that will make you want to sing

When two brands collide, it better be good, and in this case we are happy to say it is. The joint venture of fashion brands Belle & Sue and Vender is taking over Tel Aviv with a special capsule collection inspired by the old kind of America. The America with the country-style music, iconic American images, trucks, 60-year-old waitresses in diners in Detroit and of course – apple pie.   The result is a well-done minimalist collection of red hot, white and navy blue T-shirts with quotes from country songs on the front, and the name of the collection RED NECK- WHITE COLLAR on the back. There are also T-shirt dresses and tank tops with prints of the iconic faces of Elvis and Johnny Cash, but don’t be disappointed if you don’t see them, apparently it's only for people with a keen eye for details. And then there's, of course, the good old baseball hat.   Best news of all – there's a party going on! And it's country style with beer, whiskey and a lot of Johnny Cash. It's happening this Friday, April 28th at 12:00-15:00 at the Belle & Sue store on 41 Sheinkin St, Tel Aviv. The collection will be available online starting April 26th at  www.belleandsue.co.il Prices:  T-shirts: NIS 189  Dresses: NIS 379-419  Hats and bags: NIS 39-99

#ThatsHarrassment: David Schwimmer teams up with director Sigal Avin on 6 short episodes depicting sexual harassment

#ThatsHarrassment: David Schwimmer teams up with director Sigal Avin on 6 short episodes depicting sexual harassment

Ever wonder what it really looks like? The harassment I mean. Screenwriter and director Sigal Avin knows how it looks. Unfortunately, she knows how it feels too, and she thought it was about time someone actually aired it on screen so we were all aware that yes, that’s harassment. It may look innocent at times, it may even feel innocent at times, but let's not make any mistakes, that’s harassment. And yes, it can happen to men too. Avin created short online episodes based on real life scenarios in the hopes of attaching visual representations to what sexual harassment looks like. She started the project with 5 episodes in Israel, where she filmed well-known actors (all on a volunteer basis) in scenes from different work place environments to illustrate what happens when the thin but so thick line is crossed. Welcome to the real world. Now, Avin is doing it the American way with a six episode American version that features stars like David Schwimmer (also an executive producer on the project) , Cynthia Nixon, Emmy Rossum, Cristela Alonzo and more. The project, produced by Milk studios and David Schwimmer, features a doctor and a patient, a boss and a secretary, an actor and a wardrobe assistant, a politician and a journalist, a photographer and a model and coworkers, all doing the exact same thing. Doing their thing, whatever it is. Until something GOES WRONG. Something does not feel right anymore. That moment, that subtle moment needs to be acknowledged.
