The House of Dancing Water has been heralded as one of the most impressive shows in Asia and celebrates its fifth anniversary this year. The water-based stage production is the brainchild of veteran Vegas show-maker Franco Dragone and combines a modern East-meets-West fable with high-wire acrobatics and breathtaking stunts. Hong Kong’s biggest arts and music festival is drawing ever closer and it’s time to start getting excited. Since opening their doors just under two years ago, the California Tower nightclub has welcomed the likes of Sweden’s Dada Life, eccentric EDM maven Dillon Francis and trance heavyweight Dash Berlin. They'll be continuing to bring the party vibes at their birthday bash on January 18 where you can expect buzzy basslines and banging beats all night long, as well as plenty of Bavarian, castle-themed fun (think fairytales, princesses and more medieval mayhem?). There's something for everyone at Freespace. Returning with a different theme each month, Freespace encourages us to make the most of West Kowloon’s proposed, um, free space. A multi-disciplinary event in the broadest sense, with not only live music, but also dance, theatre and literary arts making up a packed weekend. For the next edition, catch an array of music performances including Indonesian duo Senyawa, French avant-garde band Las Aves bringing lively electronic pop, as well as a great lineup of local musicians. Pop into The House of Hong Kong Literature for a Personality Reading, make yourself comfortable on the lawn with an adopted or borrowed book at the Reading on the Grass book-crossing, pet (and adopt) adorable doggos from Hong Kong Dog Rescue, and of course, visit handicraft market offering original and sustainable local designs.  

HKU's Sustainability Office host a talk and exhibition focusing on Hong Kong’s subdivided units. As part of the event, images from SoCO's photography exhibition Trapped will be displayed at HKU's Student Union foyer from November 21-25. The photos shed light on the housing problems in Hong Kong through scenes of life in subdivided flats and cage homes. 

There's something for everyone at Freespace. This month the festival returns with two free documentary screenings that you can enjoy under the stars plus live music from music curator Vicky Fung. If you want to be more active, take part in CCDC Dance Centre's series of workshops.

Whisky fans rejoice! Expect an excellent lineup of delectable tipples to taste, plus a host of workshops hosted by industry experts & whisky ambassadors. It should be a high-class affair for a high-class drink.

The festival opens with a unique adaptation of The Wizard of Oz from Japan's Hikosen theatre group. Other highlights include Hup, a classical music experience for babies under 24 months and a performance by the All-American Boys Chorus. Additionally, a range of exhibitions, educational talks, and outreach programmes are set to take place during the festival. With a programme as diverse as this, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy away from the season’s heat and humidity!

The hotel’s restaurant serves both continental and Korean cuisine, with recipes taken from the Shilla Seoul’s Parkview restaurant.
