Maria Carvajal is a Helsinki-based journalist covering restaurants, travel and events. Even after twenty years, Helsinki has yet to bore her. There’s always a new restaurant to try or a quirky event to attend. Whether she walks into a neighbourhood café or a late-night drag show, she usually knows someone there – and if she doesn’t, she soon will. Before turning to journalism, Maria spent a decade working in the hotel and restaurant industry, giving her an insider’s eye for what visitors are really looking for and what keeps locals coming back. As part of LGBTQ community, she also keeps a close eye on the city’s queer scene. Her first autobiographical book about a two-mother family will be published in 2027.
Maria has written for Viinilehti, Aromi and Avecmedia. She has also authored two EAT Finland Helsinki guides.
