Racing that rocks the waterfront

Racing that rocks the waterfront

Think you know sailing? Think again, because the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix – the sport’s pinnacle championship known as ‘SailGP’ to those in the know – isn’t just about adrenaline-pumping competition (although there’s plenty of that). It’s also a day of music and festivities by the water’s edge. And who doesn’t like the sound of that on a hot summer’s day?For one weekend only from July 25-26, the most exciting race on the water heads to Southsea Common in Portsmouth – home of defending 2025-season champions Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team – before moving to Germany, Spain and Switzerland later in the summer. Over the Saturday and Sunday, no less than 13 national teams will go head-to-head on the choppy waters of the Solent in identical F50 catamarans. It’s quite the picture. Short but fierce, each race will give the world’s best waterborne athletes the chance to battle it out for glory (and gold) with the Waterfront Grandstand playing host to awe-inspiring views of the whole damn thing for up to 20,000 cheering fans. The atmosphere? You can almost cut it with a knife. SailGPSailGP It’s a proper day out, too – whether you go for just one of the dates or the whole weekend – with race stadium hosts providing live commentary and large screens meaning you won’t miss a beat of the action, interactive games like the SailGP simulator stoking competitive spirits and family-friendly activities that means the kids are kept more than entertained. 4 of the best south London pubs for watching Wimbledon this summer

4 of the best south London pubs for watching Wimbledon this summer

It's game, set and match as the annual Wimbledon Championships return to south London from June 29-July 12, bringing with them a host of world-famous players and a lot of nail-biting from the crowds (usually a who's-who of A-list celebrities and high-society, no less). Tickets sell like gold dust and are priced accordingly, naturally – especially if you want a prime position in Centre Court for the finals – but we've got a better idea: catching all the action of the best matches from brilliant pubs in south London. Sure, you don't get to see the sweat on the brows of Carlos Alcaraz, Jack Draper and Aryna Sabalenka up close, but you'll be served much-needed refreshments a hell of a lot quicker, while watching everything on the screen unfold much closer than you would perched atop Henman Hill. Luckily, Greene King offers some of the best watering holes near Wimbledon for catching the matches as close as possible. Could there be a more quintessentially British way of kicking things off?

It's National Picky Bits Day – here's what's on our shopping list to celebrate

It's National Picky Bits Day – here's what's on our shopping list to celebrate

You can’t do summer in London without M&S picky bits. Whether it’s a picnic on Hampstead Heath that makes you feel like you’re in your very own Richard Curtis rom-com, your mate’s Bank Holiday birthday barbecue, an impromptu trip to the Costa del Margate over a balmy weekend, or simply a well-deserved mid-week treat because you were in the office until late and it’s too warm to turn the oven on, summer in the city is built on a foundation of cocktail sausages, pimento olives and mini quiches, glued together with a variety of delightfully fancy dips. In fact, so great is our nation’s love of a picky tea that everyone’s official favourite purveyor of picky bits – in a recent YouGov survey, 44% of UK consumers voted M&S Food top for picky bits overall, with a clear 33 percentage points lead – has declared a national day celebrating our fondness for grazing on fun-sized pastries and crudite platters. Taking place on Saturday, June 27, National Picky Bits Day basically demands that you go ham on (or jamón?) a buffet in celebration. And to help you plan the perfect feast, we’ve curated some delicious themed selections of M&S’s quality picky bits. All you need to do is text your pals, grab a picnic blanket and add these to your basket

The insider wine pairing every oyster lover should know about

The insider wine pairing every oyster lover should know about

Think of yourself as a foodie? Of course you do. Think you know all about pairings? Naturally! But did you know Muscadet has been considered one of the world's classic oyster pairings for centuries? It’s just that many of us are only just discovering it! Yep, there’s a fresh new flavour combination in London Town and it’s calling your name at Wright Brothers with seafood eateries in Borough, Battersea Power Station and South Kensington – as well as delivering to your door.Indeed, the restaurant group – which specialises in the freshest seafood and fish expertly prepared by talented chefs – is teaming its molluscs with Muscadet thanks to its signature freshness and vibrancy. The crisp, light-bodied white produced near the Atlantic coast in the Loire Valley – one of France’s most diverse wine regions, no less – is made exclusively from the Melon Blanc grape and serves up subtle citrus notes, high acidity and saline character alongside distinctive minerality (to use wine speak). But why are oysters and Muscadet such perfect bedfellows? “It’s because the dry, crisp wine complements rather than competes with the delicate, briny taste of oysters to avoid overpowering them,” explains Leonie Cooper, food editor at Time Out. “Better still, it’s the traditional pairing from the same region of western France where Muscadet is made and where the pairing has been enjoyed together for centuries.” Wright BrothersMuscadet and oysters At Wright Brothers, you can see what all the fuss is abo

All the ways to make the most of your European adventure this summer

It’s summer holiday season! Unfortunately, for loads of us, this means it’s also “looking through our phone contract’s fine print to find out just how much we’re going to get stung for using data roaming abroad” season. We’ve all been there: one minute, you need to use a map on your phone because you’re lost in a pretty Spanish neighbourhood, and the next, you’re looking down the barrel of a pretty hefty bill once you get back. O2 customers, however, don’t have to worry: O2 is the only major network that still offers free EU Roaming up to 25GB*, meaning that their customers can search for local recommendations, find directions, and make the most of their holidays, without any hidden charges on their return. But the good stuff doesn’t stop there: O2 customers also get access to the Priority app**, where there are currently plenty of exclusive rewards and experiences (including a Time Out Market voucher!) to take your trip from good to great. And here at Time Out, we’re all about using roaming to help you discover hidden gems and make the most of your travels. So while you’re taking full advantage of O2 Roaming and  Priority rewards, we at Time Out also wanted to arm you with our top recommendations for the best things to see, do and explore in four of our favourite European cities this summer – where you can also watch the beautiful game in beautiful places, of course. Consider these recs the cherry on top of your next adventure. Photography: ShutterstockBudapest, Hungary Bud
Win a boozy Champagne brunch for you and your best pals

Win a boozy Champagne brunch for you and your best pals

The only thing better than a long, boozy lunch with the best people? A long, boozy brunch with the best people. There are loads of reasons why we prefer it to dinner or lunch. A) You can indulge in cocktails and Champagne for hours and still be tucked up at a reasonable hour with no hangover in the morning – it’s almost like it never happened. And B) In the summer, it’s a chance to soak up the sun and work on your tan while chewing the fat – talk about multi-tasking!That’s why we’re particularly excited about The Main Event at The Gun. The recently refurbished tavern and restaurant in Spitalfields is serving up a brand-new brunch menu every Saturday from 12-5pm complete with indulgent dishes cooked up using the very best ingredients and all the vibes. The Breakfast Burger is the stuff of dreams with a butter croissant loaded with a Herefordshire chuck and rib beef patty, crispy bacon, gooey American cheese, spicy jalapeños, habanero mayo and a rich egg yolk running straight through the middle. Loud, messy and absolutely the right decision before midday. Elsewhere on the new menu, there’s the French toast – thick-cut brown butter brioche with cinnamon whipped cream, maple syrup and bursting mixed berries – as well as the burrata and peach salad. WIth creamy burrata, sweet peaches, parma ham, peppery rocket and toasted walnuts finished with balsamic glaze, it’s summer on a plate. Sides are by no means sideshows, either – you’ve got to try the spiced tater tots,  padrĂłn peppers,
