You know it, we know it: it’s happening. October marks the time of year when the clocks go back, the days feel shorter, and we trade in shorts and t-shirts for massive coats, scarves the size of blankets, and the flu jab. Obviously time marches on and the seasons must change (plus, it is Christmas soon…), but right now, it can just all feel a bit drab, can’t it?

That’s where the Flower Pharmacy comes in: brought to us by the Plants and Flowers Foundation Holland, the Flower Pharmacy pop-up – coming to 15 Bateman Street in Soho from October 21-22 – is offering the ultimate pick-me-up as the grey, wintry days set in.

The Dutch are well known as masters of flowers: Holland is the centre of the international flower trade, and has been since the 17th Century when “tulip-mania” struck Europe. Today, the country is responsible for a whopping 50% of the global flower market. And now, they’re bringing their time-honoured expertise to Brits in need of some FLC (Floral Loving Care, that is).

Anyone feeling like they could do with a bit more vim and vibrance in their life this time of year can head to the colourful haven of the pop-up to receive a mood-lifting prescription – of the floral kind. Whether you’d like to feel energised or calm or you just fancy treating yourself, chat with a team member who’ll prescribe you a custom bouquet, based on your conversation, for you to take away there and then. The idea is that the flowers brighten up your home – and hopefully your spirits – while things outside are getting a little more glum.

As 'little treat' culture continues to permeate London – a pastry worth queuing for 20 minutes for here, a quick manicure there, not to mention that matcha you grabbed after a rubbish morning last week – flowers might just be the best self-care gift of the bunch (we’d say “no pun intended,” but we would, admittedly, be lying). They’re an instant booster. It’s tough to be sad when you’re faced with a pretty posy of fresh blooms on your side table or counter. And with so many varieties available depending on the time of year, they’re also an ever-changing way to spruce up your living space.

So if you’re interested in seeing what adding some flowers can do for you and your home – or if you just need an understandable bit of reprieve from all the grey outside – we’d strongly recommend a trip to the Flower Pharmacy. Drop in, enjoy the colours in all their glory, get your prescription card filled out and walk away with a bouquet that might just make you want to wake up and smell the roses – even when the days are chilly, the nights are dark, and the coats are industrial-sized.

Head to the Flower Pharmacy at 15 Bateman Street, Soho, London, W1D 3AQ from October 21-22.
