I stayed at the best hotel in the best city in the world – and this is what it was like

Melbourne has just been crowned the best city in the world for 2026 and, after a recent stay at the Ritz-Carlton Melbourne, I can safely say the title is well deserved. From its world-class restaurants to its graffiti-clad laneways, Melbourne has always felt special – but experiencing it from 80 storeys above the city in an opulent hotel regarded as one of Australia’s very best added a new layer of awe. The design of the Ritz-Carlton Melbourne itself is stunning – but the view of Melbourne from up there is absolutely jaw-dropping. The king-size bed felt like sinking into a cloud. And the marble bathroom had a massive bath with two different tap options and luxe bath salts. There were plush robes, a walk-in wardrobe with a lighted vanity, and every thoughtful amenity you could imagine. But my favourite part of the room was the local art and photography, which really help to give this hotel a sense of place. Vi
