Is this the weirdest wine glass rack in Manchester?

Is this the weirdest wine glass rack in Manchester?

If you're anything like me, you've probably never given much thought to how to store wine glasses in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Most bars and restaurants traditionally keep them out of sight in a cupboard or under the bar or on a wine glass rack. And that used to work just fine. Now though, wine is having a massive renaissance and so instead of hiding your Riedels away, you're supposed to flaunt your designer glassware for all the world to see. Step forward Palate, a new wine bar on Chorlton's Wilbraham Road from the team behind The Parlour in Chorlton and The Castle Hotel in the Northern Quarter, which opened at the beginning of May. Not content with offering Prosecco on tap and a winelist with more than 60 bottles, Palate has put its sparkling glassware on display in unique fashion by nailing actual garden rakes into the wall and hanging wine glasses off the teeth. But will these novelty wine glass holders help Palate become the toast of Chorlton? Early signs are that they're raking it in… See Time Out's guide to Manchester's best bars.

Is Cornbrook the coldest place in Manchester?

Is Cornbrook the coldest place in Manchester?

The Arctic Circle, Antarctica, the ice planet of Hoth, Cornbrook Metrolink station. They all have one thing in common – they're absolutely freezing. With the opening of the new 15-stop Manchester Airport tram line in late 2014, countless more people now have the chance to experience this for themselves. That's because the route terminates at Cornbrook, meaning practically every passenger has to shuffle off here, shiver violently for a few minutes, then scramble back onto another tram to get anywhere of note. Cornbrook also has five other routes passing through, making it one of the busiest interchanges on the network. <img align="middle" class="photo lazy inline" id="d66f7a95-5ae8-7b55-e253-20193b3ca168" src="http://media.timeout.com/images/102033771/image.jpg" type="image/jpeg" data-caption="" data-credit="Richard Frost" data-width-class="100" total="6113280" loaded="6113280"> Richard Frost   Unfortunately, Cornbrook is very, very exposed. A raised platform overlooking low-rise warehouses, car-crushing plants and open land, it's constantly buffeted by wind, rain, sleet, snow and everything else nature can conjure up. And until some kind soul puts up a decent wind breaker, it's likely to stay that way for a good while yet. Is Cornbrook the coldest place in Manchester? Yes, of course it is. It's probably also the coldest place in England, Europe and the known universe. <img align="middle" class="photo lazy inline" id="35731885-5231-7337-7bd4-8a8128c5b

You know you live in Chorlton when...

You know you live in Chorlton when...

In recent years, the people of Chorlton have been treated to a seemingly endless stream of bar, restaurant and shop openings. Here we take a closer look at three of the more unusual additions. You know you live in Chorlton when... Your local curry house becomes a trendy wine bar…with its own wine vending machineWhen Chorlton's oldest curry house, Azad Manzil, closed at the end of 2014, the obvious thing to replace it with was another curry house. However, wine expert Andy Leathley thought differently and decided to open a swish wine bar instead. The Cellar Key on Barlow Moor Road sells delicious sharing plates and more than 80 bottles of wine, but the star turn is tucked away at the back. That's right, The Cellar Key takes its wine so seriously that it's one of the first places in Manchester to have its own wine vending machine. The Cellar KeyRichard Frost     Your local barber offers cut-throat shaves…and freshly ground coffeeA trip to the barbers is generally a pretty understated affair. Most barbers involve plenty of hanging around, reading lads' mags and swapping footy-related banter while waiting your turn on the clippers. Not at 'male grooming' specialist Close on Wilbraham Road, however, where patrons are encouraged to fire up the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 ahead of their 'traditional hot towel cut throat shaves'. They can also choose from an impressive drinks menu that includes beer, wine and coffee – freshly ground of course. <img align="middle" class="ph
