By now, it is hard to keep away from Electronic Dance Music coming out of Australia. Everywhere you turn it’s there from Flume, Chet Faker, Cut Copy, and many many others. However, there is one artist that has been at the forefront for years. They are called BAG RAIDERS. In 2009 their music gained global recognition when they released their highly acclaimed single ‘Shooting Stars.’ It tore up the dance charts as well as the Hype Machine. The track features an amazing synth hook that builds upwards and takes the listener to a climactic explosion of dance-pop greatness. Since then the boys have become music festival veterans having performed at massive festivals all over the world.
Now the Bag Raiders are in the midst of recording a long-awaited, upcoming album; the band's first full-length release since their 2010 self-titled debut. In the meantime they've released an EP to hold their fans over. On the lead single, "Nairobi," the pair deconstruct their ornate electro-pop sound with marimba melodies that soar atop nimble conga rhythms, cowbells, and a funky, relentless guitar riff, the track brings much-needed personality to the tech-house palette. While fans should expect a more embellished strain of radio-ready electronic pop from their forthcoming release the Nairobi/Savaana EP are equally powerful servings of worldly modern disco ready for the club. Born and raised in the bay area, Papa Lu absorbed all of the underground music around him from Hip Hop to house. His first passion was with Hip Hop and as soon as he graduated from High School he dove right into the business of throwing parties. He worked with classic artists of the true school era like Digable Planets, Digital Underground, Gang Starr, Kool Keith, and many more. During that time several house music pioneers like Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Dj Sneak, Heather, Colette, etc were making waves at that same venues he was throwing hip hop parites. From that exposure he made a quick transition into producing house music events like his Night Moves party at Monarch SF. In the process he became obsesed with finding exciting new artists and emerging sounds to book at his parties. After completely immersing himself in dance music it was only natural for Papa Lu to start his carear as a DJ opening and closing for cutting edge and legendary artists and gaining new fans at every gig.
