(Americana band of 3 young brothers from New Jersey, 12-17yo)
“This trio of brothers: 17 year-old Tommy Mizzone on guitar and harmonies, 16 year-old Robbie Mizzone on fiddle and lead vocals, and 12 year-old Jonny Mizzone on banjo, has made quite an entrance onto the music scene with YouTube videos now eclipsing over 30 million views. Representing a new generation of americana roots music, Sleepy Man has released a brand new EP titled ‘By My Side’ on June 24 marking the first time the group has contributed vocals to their own songs.
Over the past year, the band has performed at Stagecoach, The New Orleans Jazz Festival, and the Frendly Gathering, with Burton Girls proclaiming: “Their act features sweet lyrics harmonized over driving tempos that crescendo before retreating, only to rise again. Their sound is topped with complicated melodies that fly up and down with fury as they put a youthful, rocked-out twist on Bluegrass.” The boys also dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform their EP title track.
The band has appeared on the stages of the Grand Ole Opry, Capitol Hill in DC, Ryman Auditorium, Newport Folk Festival, and Carnegie Hall and their popularity continues to accelerate. Based in New Jersey, a state known more for rock music than for bluegrass, the Mizzone brothers fell in love with the unique sounds of J.D. Crowe, Ralph Stanley, Tony Rice and Earl Scruggs (who they discovered on YouTube). With their own twist on the genre, the band has created an interesting blend of instrumentation and vocal harmonies that showcase their musical gifts and passion for acoustic roots music.”
