Be Wild: Bree Loewen says
Join us on June 7 as Seattle-based search and rescuer, EMT, and author, Bree Loewen feature stories from her latest book: Found: A Life in Mountain Rescue.

Bree Loewen has been a climbing ranger on Mount Rainier, an EMT in Seattle, and a contributor to Climbing and Alpinist magazines. As a current volunteer with Seattle Mountain Rescue, Loewen has been on more than 100 rescues in the past three years—and countless more over her career.

In her first book, Pickets and Dead Men, Bree recounted three seasons she spent as a climbing ranger on Mount Rainier, beginning at the tender age of 21. Through her stories, she revealed her struggle to gain the respect of her male coworkers, her constant internal self-doubt, and a continual pondering of that never-ending question: Why am I here?

Now in her mid-thirties, Bree has become a wife, a mother, and a leader of Seattle Mountain Rescue (SMR). She no longer struggles with the respect of co-workers (she has it in spades) nor crippling self-doubt (overcome after hundreds of rescues). But she does still ponder the question of why she continues to head into the backcountry, confronting danger, risk, and, often, death. SMR is involved in everything from high profile accidents to rescues that never even make the local news. And since the climbing and outdoor community in Seattle is so close knit, Bree often finds herself involved in efforts to rescue friends and acquaintances. She discusses these experiences in her latest book, Found.

Tickets are $10 for members, and $12 for non-members or at the door. This will be hosted at our Seattle Program Center. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm.
