Giordano Productions Presents Brazilian Duo Paula Santoro & Ian Faquini and their new CD "Metal na Madeira" (Metal on Wood) with special guests, Latin Grammy Award Nominee Jovino Santos Neto on piano and Jeff Busch on drums.

The duo's latest project is a modern portrait of traditional forms and rhythms from the northeast of Brazil. Maracatu, Frevo, Baião, Xote, and Toada from the cities and wild countryside of Bahia, Ceara, and Rio Grande do Norte meet the soulful, original melodies Paula and Ian are known for. Together with Seattle’s Jovino Santos Neto and Jeff Busch, they will share the music from their new album and tunes from the contemporary Brazilian songbook.

Santoro hails originally from the interior state of Minas Gerais, birthplace of Clube da Esquina, a lush strain of late ‘60s post-bossa nova music spearheaded by Milton Nascimento and Márcio Borges. Santoro’s lush, warm vocals and gentle rhythms, often accompanied by piano, reflect that influence, as well as her deep background in jazz, classical music, bossa nova and rock. Santoro cites Joni Mitchell as her ideal artist, though Elis Regina, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Gal Costa and Edith Piaf are also part of her musical pantheon. - Excerpt from Paul de Barros's article in the Seattle Times. Ian Faquini is a Brazilian guitar player and singer who resides near Berkeley, California, where he was a member of the renowned Berkeley High School Jazz program. At the age of 16, Ian’s talent and love for music came to the attention of legendary Brazilian guitar maestro Guinga, who took him under his wing. In the few years since, Ian has become one of the most respected players in the San Francisco Bay Area, demonstrating rare chordal technique and a special delicate touch on very difficult pieces. His last few summers have been spent in Brazil, where he has performed and studied with some of that country's highest level players, including Marcus Tardelli, Guinga, and others. Ian recently joined the faculty at California Brazil Camp, and is currently completing a degree at the Jazz School in Berkeley., He performs both solo and in a jazz duo with saxophonist Doug Pet. Along with his many original compositions, Ian has a large repertoire of classic sambas, choros, bossa novas, and Brazilian classical guitar pieces.
