Choro das 3 preserves and extends a tradition over 100 years old - one that continues to attract composers, virtuoso musicians, and incredulous, delighted audiences. This is their 3rd US tour!

Opening act:
Choroloco – Seattle’s own choro band, Rosalynn De Roos – clarinet, Stuart Zobel – 7 string guitar, Naoyuki Swada – cavaquinho (ukulele) & Brandi Ledferd – percussion. They just returned from the Berkeley Choro Festival in May, and have released a new CD. They have been performing since 2009, and have a loyal, admiring and affectionate following.

What is “Choro” music?
Choro is a vintage style of acoustic music born on the streets of Rio de Janeiro turn of last century. Like ragtime with a tropical twist! It’s a virtuosic style that demands a high level of musicianship among its players with breakneck tempos- and also allows for creative improvisation. It has an irresistible Afro-Brazilian syncopated rhythm. The genre emerged in the late 1800's, a confluence of rural Indian and African plantation dance forms with the sophisticated waltzes, polkas, mazurkas, and classical music traditions of European immigrants.
