The second fanfare of our anniversary season, A Seranade Fanfare, was composed by Cornish College student Lydia Park, whose passion for composing began with an epiphany, "I was sitting in the middle of the concert band where I could hear the sound coming from almost every instrument. It was in that moment when my passion for composing was ignited. I started to compose ever since, hoping to give the audience similar experience that I had."
Our soloist for this program is Denise Dillenbeck, one of the most outstanding violinists in the Northwest, whose refinement and elegance will be a perfect match for Mendelssohn's masterpiece.
2015 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Jean Sibelius, the towering Finish composer whose music has transcended borders with its extraordinary depth and originality. Upon his very first symphonic attempt (1899/1900), Sibelius composed an instant masterpiece that expresses with striking intensity his deep affection for nature and his country. He followed with six symphonies that were to immortalize one of the greatest composers of his generation.
