Seattle Jazz Vespers says
“I’m so pleased to offer this concert as part of the Seattle Jazz Vespers series. The 19 member orchestra will sound unbelievable in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church. We will present orchestral jazz that includes Cuban, Brazilian, Peruvian and Classical music traditions. CRO features soloists Jovino Santos Neto, Steve Mostovoy, Thomas Marriott, Steve Treseler, Mark Taylor, Paul Gillespie, Jim DeJoie, Naomi Siegal, Nathan Vetter, Greg Campbell and Ben Thomas among others. Our goal is to transcend the mundane details of daily life and catch a glimpse of the devine.” -Daniel Barry, Composer/Conductor

Daniel Barry’s music falls primarily into the jazz category but assembles ideas from Afro-Cuban, Afro-Peruvian, Brazilian and classical music traditions.

“The sound and style... is difficult to pin down, partly because it switches continually from one influence to another. Sometimes it sounds like folk music from the Old Country, other times like a sort of sophisticated modern gypsy music, and again like some Caribbean or South African High Life music. The writing is fresh and imaginative, and has a hip, tongue-in-cheek sort of style that sets it apart from most of the similar efforts of the “third stream” period.
