Fighting Fake News: A Discussion And Workshop says
Fake news has been around for a long time, but in this election year a new strain of disinformation has emerged that some believe is in part responsible for the election of Donald Trump. For the first half of tonight's event, we will discuss where this "news" comes from, how to identify it, and what, exactly, to do when you see it.

We have three excellent panelists who will be speaking on this insidious threat with moderator and Seattle Weekly Editor-in-Chief Mark Baumgarten. Everygrey co-founder Monica Guzman will discuss the early evolution of the post-fact media landscape and the impact of social media on political discourse, while Seattlish co-founder Hanna Brooks Olsen will speak about the particular impact that fake news has had on the election and Monica Nickelsburg from GeekWire will walk us through tech's response to the problem.

The second half of the event will be devoted to a workshop on how to listen and talk across political and cultural divides--a necessary tool in the fight against fake news. This will be a hands-on, skill-building exercise facilitated by Guzman and educators from The Seattle Globalist.
