Kill Rock Stars turns 25 and celebrates with a show at Chop Suey! Join us for live music from KRS recording artists Kinski and Wimps, plus our good friends Lithics.

Kinski is a four-piece rock band from Seattle, WA. The band follows their instincts to explore pathways from visceral guitar rock, to sonic and heady avant-psych rock, and sparse, atmosphere-bending instrumentals. NME has described Kinski as: “Like Sabbath in a washing machine during a power surge.” Comprised of guitarists Chris Martin and Matthew Reid-Schwartz (Matthew also plays keyboards and flute), bassist Lucy Atkinson, and drummer Barrett Wilke, Kinski has toured with Mission of Burma, Comets on Fire, Oneida, Mono, Black Mountain, Acid Mothers Temple, and opened a month of dates for Tool on their spring ’07 tour.

Seattle’s Wimps is a three-piece comprised of scene veterans Rachel Ratner (Butts) on guitar and lead vocals, Matt Nyce (Meth Teeth) on bass and backing vocals, and Dave Ramm (The Intelligence) on drums. Wimps serve their own brand of rapid-fire punk with a smattering of lo-fi post punk guitar work to create an angular, slightly off-kilter blast. Ratner lyrically twists otherwise common day-to-day woes into relatable tales of struggle shout-sung call and response stabs that champion boredom, laziness and social anxieties with wiry riffs and punchy bass lines, propelled by the measured rhythms of drummer David Ramm. In 2015 they partnered with Kill Rock Stars and released a cassette and their sophomore album ‘Suitcase’ to praise from places like Noisey, Nerdist, AV Club, Exclaim, Norman Records, the Stranger, and more.

Lithics is a four person minimalist punk band from Portland, Oregon formed in late 2014. Over the last year and a half they have refined a sound focusing on interlocked bass and drum rhythms paired with shrill guitar counterpoint and stark female vocals. While counting Wire, The Fall, Devo, Pylon, The Shadow Ring, and Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band as reference points, the band’s concerns are contemporary and urgent. An injection of uptight, nervous energy into the reverb drenched complacency of today’s musical underground.
