"A revolving and constantly evolving cast of characters make up Portland, Oregon chamber-folk ensemble Loch Lomond, led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ritchie Young. After thirteen years in action, four full-lengths (and as many EPs), the band is set to release Pens From Spain, the fifth in a line of inventive, engaging albums.

The band has toured with The Decemberists, cut a split EP with Ty Segall, and contributed tracks to Oscar-nominated stop motion film The Boxtrolls. Their thoughtfully arranged instrumentation and indulgent lyrical meditations unfurl in endless layers of discovery. Instruments you don’t notice at first slowly creep in, harmonies spin in bizarre, trippy swells. The band has added back in the use of drum machines and synths, giving a timely edge to their acoustics, paired with classic, intimate guitars, organs, and chimes.

If the intricacies of the new work approach anywhere near the recorded version when performed live, this should be a show not to miss.

Planes on Paper are set to open their show at Seattle’s The Triple Door on September 1, 2016. The folk-pop duo’s contemplative lyricism and unforced harmonies capture the charismatic acoustic partnering between Jen Borst and Navid Eliot. The results? Wistful, sweeping, and dark, a magnetic balance, that while many indie folk duos may try, few are accomplishing on a level as cohesive as these two."
