Join us as the Mount Baker Community Club hosts the first of a series of community discussions on race and social justice issues with a goal to increase understanding, foster trust and listen to different points of view. Co-hosted by the Northwest African American Museum.

We will listen to each other, consider other points of view and challenge ourselves to face the reality of racism. Guests will include Seattle Times "Under Our Skin" team, Bishop Greg Rickel, the John Muir Elementary Race and Equity Team and others. Will include a viewing of "Under Our Skin."

45 minutes: Show "Under Our Skin" video from The Seattle Times

15 minutes of shared perspective from panel. Panel to include: NAAM, Seattle Times, John Muir Race and Equity Team (parents and teachers)

45 minutes: Facilitated discussion
Excerpt from the producer of "Under Our Skin:" Discussions about race, inclusiveness and sensitivity clearly aren't new. They can leave us feeling depleted and wondering whether anything has really changed. But we believe the personal reflections and stories from the people who participated in this project will inspire all of us to think and talk about these issues in a deeper way. For those of us who freeze up at the prospect of talking about race, we hope this project will help break the ice. For those who tend to take sides right away when the issue of race comes up, we hope Under Our Skin will challenge assumptions and build common ground.
