Patty Cuyler Corsican Workshop says
Patty Cuyler, co-director of Village Harmony, will teach a workshop on Corsican singing, in Seattle on Tuesday, March 31, 7:00-9:00 p.m. This 2-hour workshop will cost $20, or $18 if you RSVP on our web site.

(Patty will also teach a workshop on South African singing and dance on Monday, March 30.

If you have been to a Village Harmony camp, then you know the joy of singing authentic music from other cultures under the leadership of world-class experts. If you haven’t been to a camp, now is your chance to experience that authenticity and joy!

Patty is an energetic, dynamic workshop leader and choral director, internationally renowned for her expertise in teaching Corsican, Bulgarian, Georgian and South African choral music and vocal technique. Patty teaches with exquisitely clear instruction in vocal tone, pronunciation, and—in her popular South African choral workshops—dance movements, while at the same time imparting a concrete understanding of each music’s historical and social context.

Born in California and a graduate of Princeton University, Patty has been co-director since 1995 of the Vermont non-profit Village Harmony and its professional touring ensemble, Northern Harmony. She founded and still directs the 10-year old community world music choir Boston Harmony as well as two other world music choruses in Chicago and Brooklyn.

Corsican music is typically three-part, small group, polyphonic singing with intense, ringing harmonies and complex timing and interplay between the various parts. While anyone is welcome, we recommend this workshop for people who have at least heard some Corsican music before and are interested in exploring its challenges.
