Pacific Science Center says
Think while you drink! Every first Wednesday of the month, join us for PubSci at Hilliard's Beer Taproom in Ballard for an open, engaging and easy to understand discussion on current research with your community and local scientists and experts.
This month, join Tola Marts from Intellectual Ventures Lab to learn about "Saving Lives Around the World by Shooting Mosquitoes with Lasers."

Mosquitoes are nasty. They carry an amazing number of diseases. They breed really quickly, so tend to develop tolerances to insecticides. Fortunately science has an answer: shoot them dead with lasers. The scientists over at Intellectual Ventures Lab in Bellevue have developed a mosquito laser that does indeed see the mosquito, track the mosquito, and then clobbers the mosquito dead with a lethal dose of laser energy. Have you ever watched a science fiction movie and wondered what a laser actually does to a body? Come find out. You will never feel the same way about your least favorite back yard pests.

This event is sponsored by Seattle Children's Research Institute.
