ABOUT THE SLAM

Nine poets have been competing all year for the chance to be in this slam. Four of them will move on to form the 2015 Rain City Slam Poetry Team, and will compete at Nationals in Oakland.

ABOUT THE FEATURED POET

Mike McGee says:

My name is Michael Matthew McGee. Most people call me Mike. Professionally, I am known as "Mighty" Mike McGee in the world of poetry slam, spoken word and comedy. It rolls nicely off the tongue and helps differentiate me from other awesome people named Mike McGee on the internet, of which there are many.
I was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky (on the border of Tennessee) with a mild form of Spina Bifida, a neural tube defect that has impacted my life on a daily basis. It is probably the foundation and origin of my love of humor, art and language.
I have four sisters and three brothers, of which I am the eldest.
I have toured roughly 600,000 miles as a performer and speaker.
I have toured most of the U.S.A. and Canada and have toured parts of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, France and Britain.
in 2003, I won the National Poetry Slam Individual Grand Championship.
In 2006, I won the Individual World Poetry Slam Championship.
I’ve been featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, NPR, CBC, and you can find a bunch of my videos on Youtube.
