Town Hall Seattle says
In "The Places in Between," described as “a flat-out masterpiece” by the "New York Times Book Review," Rory Stewart described his experience of walking through the most dangerous borderlands in the world. Now he brings us "The Marches," his story of walking along the border between England and Scotland—his homeland—where political turmoil and colorful lives have played out for centuries across a magnificent natural landscape. In his thousand-mile journey, Stewart slept on mountain ridges and housing estates, in hostels and farmhouses. He followed the lines of Neolithic standing stones and waded through floods and ruined fields. Bringing together the stories of the people he meets with the region’s political and economic history, he examines the force of traditions and the endurance of relationships forged by land.
