Seattle In Memory Of Boris Nemtsov And Support Of Nadejda Savchenko

On 27th of February, Boris Nemtsov, former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and a leading Russian opposition politician, was gunned down in the very heart of Moscow. There is no doubt in the mind of many Russian citizens and activists that Nemtsov was murdered for his vocal criticism of the Russian government and especially Russia's involvement in the current war conflict in Ukraine. As Seattle-based Russian-Americans, we are shocked and deeply saddened by this senseless violence. On Sunday, March 1st, we be will meeting in front of Seattle's Russian consulate to hold a vigil in Boris's memory and to stand together in support of Nadezha Savchenko, currently on 77th day of her hunger strike in a Russian jail. We may have our political differences, but we can no longer stay silent in the face of terrible violence and injustice. In solidarity with similar anti-war rallies that will be held on the same day around the world, we will stand together this Sunday against the war in Ukraine and against the political terror that is currently enveloping our beloved country. Unlike our fellow activists in Russia, we're not in any danger -- except for the danger of losing our own conscience. Please join us this Sunday, March 1st, at the steps of One Union Square building (600 University Street) from 13:30 to 14:30pm. Flowers, posters and quiet singing are welcomed. 27 февраля в Москве был убит Борис Немцов. Мы шокированы этим преступлением. Нет никаких сомнений, что это убийство - политическое. 1 марта в 13:30 мы выходим в память убитого Бориса Немцова, в поддержку умирающей Надежды Савченко, за прекращение всех военных действий на территории Украины. Мы собираемся у здания российского консульства в знак солидарности с теми, кто выходит на улицу против войны и беззакония нынешней российской власти в этот день в России, Америке и Европе. У нас могут быть разные политические взгляды, но мы выходим вместе в это воскресенье, так как мы не можем молчать. Нам ничего не угрожает и нам нечего терять, кроме нашей собственной совести.
