Handwritten Productions says
We are more sexually liberated in 2015 than ever before, but we still don’t talk about sex comfortably. Some of us don’t even experience sex comfortably. In many regards, we have no reference for what is “normal”.

Why is online dating still a taboo topic? We all do it. We all know people who do it. But for some reason we are embarrassed to admit that we have joined the masses in a virtual search for love, or at least sex. It’s as if joining a community online is a sign that we have failed at something in real life. In this production we want to blow up this conversation to get our community talking about how dating apps and websites affect people emotionally, physically, and psychologically.

La Ronde is a play written by Arthur Schnitzler in 1897 that scrutinizes the sexual morals and class ideology of its day through a series of encounters between pairs of characters. Writing for characters from all walks of life, Schnitzler is able to explore how sexual contact transgresses class lines, while illuminating patterns of power and oppression.

Handwritten Productions will create a modern adaptation of this classic text using improvisation and devised theater methods to explore class, sexuality, gender, power, and race. This production will look at the ways in which modern technology has aided a thriving “hook up” culture and radically altered our views on sex, commitment, and relationships.

Although we will honor the structure and archetypes within the text, we will be reimagining much of this material.

Performances are April 10-25, Thursdays-Saturdays, at 7:30pm.

Tickets are pay-what-you-will at the door.
